Alfreton Freemasons Support Local Charities

On Wednesday 13th December Brethren of The Saint Thomas Lodge, meeting at the ‘Abraham Library Building’ in Alfreton were joined by partners and guests to enjoy a Festive meal. Invited also were representatives of MacMillan Nursing, British Heart Foundation and Ripley Community Hospital, each to receive a cheque for their appropriate organisation.

The Worshipful Master Bro. Derek Phillips is pictured presenting cheques for £600 to Olympia Shipley, Area Fund Manager for MacMillan Nursing and Derek Kilgariff, Area Fund Manager for British Heart Foundation. In response they both explained how monies would be put to use, thereby benefiting many people in Alfreton and immediate areas, in their time of need. A cheque for £300 was presented to Sally Maycock, Ward Manager, Butterley Ward, Ripley Community Hospital, towards much needed patient equipment, where one of our own members recently experienced vital care and compassion, during a prolonged stay in hospital.

Freemasonry has celebrated 300 years of history in 2017 and to be able to demonstrate one of it’s virtues Charity, locally, is both satisfying and rewarding to it’s members. The Charity Fund is accrued mainly by members personal gifting, plus proceeds from raffles etc. at Ladies Evening and other social events.
