Alfreton Masonic Hall Provide a Musical Feast for the Tercentenary Celebrations
Alfreton Masonic Hall held not one but two events to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the foundation of the United Grand Lodge of England on 29 and 30th September 2017.
The Masonic Hall and dining suite was opened to the general public on Friday 29th September with Shirland Brass Band, being provided the use of the Hall free of charge as a fundraising event, with all proceeds being donated to the band themselves.
The first part of the evening Shirland Brass brought their Training band for the first session followed by the full Senior band. The Hall bounced with rousing music and was thoroughly enjoyed by all. A good response from Visitors who were most impressed with the generosity and the privilege to view the ‘inside’ of the ‘Abraham Lincoln Library’.
Light refreshments were provided in the Neil Stone dining suite, and it proved to be a splendid evening, with 93 visitors being entertained.
On the Saturday 30th September, a musical evening of a difference, with the acclaimed Yamaha organist, local musician Ryan Edwards. Ryan’s father was a Past Master of St Thomas Lodge and his Grandfather is W Bro Ray Greasley of St Thomas and Morcar Lodges.
Ryan entertained in fine style, with all who attended thoroughly enjoying his programme- and the screen he erected for us to see his hands on the keyboard, in full flow, was a revelation!
Refreshments were served in the dining Suite along with wine and other drinks from the bar. From these two events to mark the tercentenary in Alfreton, we have gained a greater respect for local people who are eager to be informed of any other event we may plan in the future.
We have since received two enquiries for possible Membership to Freemasonry from these events – a welcome bonus!
